Northeastern Pennsylvania is filled with activities designed specifically for families with children. Some of these activities involve museums full of interesting exhibits that will be enjoyed by all ages, while others are outdoors and are engineered in order to help burn up some of that child-like energy. No matter what, all five of these places on our list of best family attractions in Northeastern Pennsylvania are a great way to spend some quality family time, so make some room in your schedule for them!
1) The Children’s Museum, 2 West Seventh St, Bloomsburg, PA 17815
Imagination is the name of the game at The Children’s Museum. The exhibits are designed to both teach and inspire at the same time. Some of these include the Coal Mine Tunnel and its fossils, mines and coal shafts; the Let’s Pretend General Store, complete with “foods” and “packages” that kids can pretend to purchase; and the Animal Architects exhibit, which showcases some of the cool “houses” that animals build for themselves to live in.
2) Crayola Factory at Two Rivers Landing, 30 Centre Square, Easton, PA 18042
Crayola crayons and markers are two things that almost every child has used to color in coloring books, design pictures and draw on everything from posterboard to (unfortunately) the walls of their homes. Thanks to the Crayola Factory, kids can see how crayons and markers are made, as well as participate in numerous hands-on activities using those materials.
3) Electric City Trolley Station & Museum, 300 Cliff Street, Scranton, PA 18503
Did you know that Scranton was the first city in Pennsylvania to have a trolley line? That’s why it’s called the “electric city.” This fact and many more are introduced at the Electric City Trolley Station and Museum. There are trolley rides available that take you from the Steamtown National Historic Site all of the way through the Crown Avenue Tunnel, which is a whopping 4,747 feet long. The museum itself has a number of informative exhibits as well. Between the trolley rides and the museum, even big kids will be entertained.
4) Lahey Family Fun Park, 500 Morgan Highway, Clarks Summit, PA
Sometimes you just need to go outdoors – and that’s what the Lahey Family Fun Park is for. This family activity center features batting cages, bumper boats, an indoor arcade, a go-cart track and even a miniature golf course. There’s also a soft play area for younger kids that is filled with things to climb and slide down. Whether your family is filled with little kids or big kids, this is a place that shouldn’t be missed.
5) The Discovery Center, 60 Morgan Rd, Binghamton, NY, 13903
Although The Discovery Center is in the state of New York, it is close enough to Northeast Pennsylvania to make it onto our list. This children’s museum has a helicopter flight simulator, a replica of a TV news station, and numerous other exhibits that will keep your young ones entertained.
As you can see, there are many different things available for families in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The next time your children say that they are bored, pull out this list and pick an activity. Everything listed here is far from boring!
