Orlando, Florida is better known for its amusement parks and resorts than anything else. However, the many restaurants within its borders shouldn’t be overlooked. After all, the many people who visit Disney World, Sea World and Universal Studios every year have to eat somewhere, right? The five restaurants on this list represent some of the best in the city.
1) Kabooki Sushi, 3122 E Colonial Dr., Orlando, FL 32803
Kabooki Sushi bills itself as a sushi and Asian fusion restaurant, however, the sushi is the main draw. You can choose from many different hand rolled options, including California rolls and ghost rolls, plus moriawase, yellow tail and sea urchin. On the Asian fusion side of the menu, you’ll find options like chicken satay and kazan scallops. Don’t let the location (a strip mall) fool you – this restaurant is a hidden gem.
2) Kres Chophouse, 17 West Church Street, Orlando, FL 32801
Sometimes a great steakhouse is just what you need. Kres Chophouse certainly delivers on that. The interior of this restaurant has red upholstered walls and dark accents, both of which highlight its upscale atmosphere. The menu goes along with this as well, with porterhouse steaks, fillet mignon, salmon steak and pan seared chicken breast available as entrees. Make sure to save room for dessert, specifically the white chocolate bread pudding.
3) Norman’s, 4012 Central Florida Parkway, Orlando, FL 32837 (inside the Ritz-Carlton Grande Lakes Hotel)
Norman’s calls itself a tapas restaurant, which does nothing to explain its unique cuisine. The tapas part of the menu is relegated to the appetizers, as the rest of the dishes are more along the lines of creative fusion, including items like a cocoa spiced Charleston cut lamb chop and a mustard-dill marinated venison loin. There is also a tasting menu and an assortment of decadent desserts. This restaurant is not cheap, but the food and service are worth the price.
4) Tu Casa Restaurant, 9251 South Orange Blossom Trail, Orlando, FL 32837
Tu Casa serves Mexican, Latin American and Caribbean cuisine, but you won’t find a burrito or a taquito anywhere on the menu. Instead, they serve up classics, including Bistec (peppered steak), fried Tilapia, garlic chicken breast and shrimp soup, all with a side of rice and beans. There are also soups, salads, and a range of appetizers, from empanadas to “papas fritas,” also known as French fries. The prices are great, and so is the food.
5) Saffron Indian Cuisine, 7724 W Sand Lake Road, Orlando, FL 32819
If you’ve been looking for good Indian food, your hunt is over. Saffron Indian Cuisine has an extensive menu of Tandoori dishes, specialty items, bread and appetizers. Some of the standout dishes are the vegetable samosas, palak paneer, chicken madras and aloo paratha (unleavened bread stuffed with seasoned potatoes.) Reservations aren’t required, but they are recommended.
These five restaurants are just a sample of the many located in and around Orlando, Florida. All of them could qualify as “the best,” although that depends on what type of food you like or are in the mood for. Each serves a different type of food, showcasing the variety available to pick from. Which one will top your list?
