The Mohegan Sun Casino bills itself as the largest casino in the United States. With its multiple hotels, thousands of slot machines and table games, and 30-store shopping area, this certainly seems to be true. What’s also true is that the Mohegan Sun is a great place to celebrate the Fourth of July. Thanks to the many activities available, you can spend the entire holiday weekend there without getting bored. Here are just a few of many holiday weekend activities to choose from:
1) Go to a sporting event.
The Connecticut Sun WNBA team is playing the Tulsa Shock at 7pm on July 3rd in the Mohegan Sun Arena. Tickets for the event range from $22 up to $206, depending on where you’d like to sit and watch the game. The wide array of prices fits the game into most budgets – although the fact that the arena holds only 10,000 people means that you should plan ahead if you’d like to go.
Depending on how you structure your weekend (and whether or not you extend it into the following Monday, as well) you have your choice of several different shows at the Mohegan Sun. John Mellencamp will be playing the Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday, July 5th at 8pm, the day after the holiday. Katy Perry brings her Prismatic World Tour to the same location on Monday, July 7th at 7pm. Other live entertainment events include Hoobastank, who play at the Wolf Den on July 5th at 8pm (this show is free!), Rusted Root, who play at the Wolf Den on Sunday, July 6th at 7pm, and comedian Stephanie Peters, who brings her own brand of comedy – and a few guests – to the Cabaret Theater on Saturday, July 5th at 9pm.
GLO can best be described as an outdoor dance party. It takes place on a regular basis at the Sun Terrace Pool all summer long. The inaugural GLO event of the summer season starts at 10pm on Thursday, July 3rd with a performance by Cobra Starship, a dance-pop band. This event is adults-only, and is practically guaranteed to be a good time.
4) Celebrate the Fourth of July by joining the party.
Rather than have a fireworks extravaganza, the Mohegan Sun Casino is having a party instead. The Party on the Rooftop takes place literally on a rooftop – of the Riverview Garage. There are discounted beverages, food trucks on site, and a live band scheduled to play – in this case, Parrot Beach, a Jimmy Buffet tribute band. In case you’re wondering which food trucks will be there, be prepared for a little of everything. Some of the ones on the list include The Local Meatball, the Cupcake Truck, and Lobster Craft. The party starts at 7pm, and you need to be over 21 to enter.
The Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut is a great place to celebrate the Fourth of July. Between the many live shows, the parties, and the sporting events, there is plenty going on. The only problem that you’ll have is choosing which things to do.
