The Fourth of July is known as a family friendly holiday. It’s when people get together and host barbecues, attend festivals, or simply sit back and watch the fireworks from a good vantage point. In Northeastern Pennsylvania, there are several different events going on over the Fourth of July weekend. Here are just a few of them.
– Attend a concert or a sporting event.
If you want to do something a little untraditional on the Fourth of July, then look no further! There are several baseball games scheduled for that holiday weekend, as well as a concert at the Toyota Pavilion at Montage Mountain (located in Scranton, PA). Styx and Foreigner, two classic rock bands with many hit songs between them, are scheduled to be on stage starting at 8pm on Friday, July 4th. Tickets are still available, and range from $20 to $200, depending on how close to the stage you prefer to be, and your budget, of course.
The Scranton-Wilkes Barre Railriders are the Triple-A minor league team for the New York Yankees. They are based at PNC Field at 235 Montage Mountain Rd, Moosic PA. The team has several games scheduled for the holiday weekend, and are even playing on July 4th. Some of the weekend games – those planned for the 4thand 5th – are against the Buffalo Bisons, while the game scheduled for the 6th is against the Charlotte Knights. Some giveaways and other promotions planned for those holiday weekend games include a fireworks show after the game on the 4th, a Derek Jeter statue on the 5th and family FUNday on the 6th. Tickets are still available for all games.
– Watch the fireworks.
There are two main fireworks shows to choose from in Northeastern Pennsylvania for the July holiday – one in Wilkes-Barre and one in Scranton. The Wilkes-Barre fireworks will take place at Kirby Park (located at 280 Market Street, Kingston, PA 18704) on Friday, July 4th, once it is dark enough. The Scranton ones are scheduled for Thursday, July 3rd at the Lackawanna Court House, located at 436 Spruce St., Scranton, Pennsylvania 18503. No matter which show you choose, you are in for a treat.
– Attend a Fourth of July festival.
It’s not summer – or even the Fourth of July – without a festival of one kind or another. The one held in Wilkes-Barre at Kirby Park on July 4th is both classic and family friendly. There will be food, games, entertainment, and many other activities for people of all ages. The festival begins at noon, and lasts until the fireworks have ended later on that night.
No matter what your list of Fourth of July plans consists of, odds are, seeing a fireworks show is somewhere on there. You have your choice of two different shows in the Northeastern Pennsylvania area, as well as a concert, some baseball games and a festival. All of these provide you with plenty of chances to get out of the house and have some fun over the holiday weekend. Which ones do you want to take part in?
